Financial Health Score: One Number, 0 to 100
What It Is
Your Financial Health Score is a single number between 0 and 100 that shows how structurally sound your finances are. It's based on how many of the 9 leaks in the Leak Ladder you've plugged. Not your income. Not your net worth. Not your credit history.
How It Works
When you open YourDigits for the first time, you take an 11-question audit. It asks about your spending plan, emergency fund, employer match, debt, retirement savings, and investing. Based on your answers, the app detects which leaks you have and calculates your score.
The score reflects your structural financial health, not your balance at any given moment. Someone earning $50,000 with no high-interest debt, a starter emergency fund, and their employer match collected can score higher than someone earning $150,000 with three active leaks.
Scores fall into four tiers:
| Score | Tier |
|---|---|
| 80-100 | Strong Position |
| 60-79 | Solid Foundation |
| 40-59 | A Few Things to Work On |
| 0-39 | Needs Work |
As you plug leaks, your score goes up. The app detects the change and updates your score automatically. You're not re-entering data or recalculating anything manually. When you tell the app you've paid off a high-interest debt, the leak closes, the score adjusts.
Why It Matters
Most financial dashboards give you charts. Pie charts of your spending. Line graphs of your account balances over time. Trend arrows.
The problem with charts is that they're descriptive. They tell you what happened. They don't tell you how you're doing.
A single number does something different. It gives you a baseline. Something to track. Something to share. Something to set a target against. "I'm at 47. I want to get to 65 before the end of the year." That's a goal you can work toward. "My dining category is 12% of my budget this month" is just a fact.
The score also removes a common source of confusion: the order problem. Most people with financial leaks don't just have one. They have three or four simultaneously, and they don't know which one to fix first. The score doesn't just tell you where you are. The Leak Ladder tells you what to do next.
The health score and the Leak Ladder work together. The score tells you the headline. The ladder tells you the next step.
